The More Than Food Program strives to drive collective environmental impact by empowering the McMaster student community to harness the potential of sustainable food systems.

The More Than Food Program is a team of students who share a passion for sustainability and are invested in creating positive environmental change on campus. The More Than Food Program offers a platform for students to apply their skills and creativity to foster further engagement and uptake of sustainability initiatives run through McMaster Hospitality Services.

Integrating food systems and green literacy, More Than Food Peers strengthen their ability to effectively advocate for change through experiential learning focused on project planning and relationship building. The program aims to grow the sustainable movement at McMaster Hospitality Services by empowering the next generation of sustainability leaders on campus.

  • Promote Hospitality Services sustainability initiatives through pop-up events
  • Support the Choose to Reuse program and Reuse Pass
  • Share strategies for efficient use of self-sort waste streams on campus
  • Conduct waste audits
  • Gather feedback from the campus community
  • Inspire positive environmental change on campus rooted in sustainable food system initiatives
  • Increase use of the Reuse Pass at Centro on campus
  • Strengthen relationship between Hospitality Services and McMaster student community
  • Champion students to become global stewards of their campus and communities

Position Summary:

More Than Food Peers work as a team to increase awareness and uptake of Hospitality Services sustainability initiatives by the student community at McMaster, with a special focus on promoting the Eco-Container Program.

Position Details:

Date: January 2024 – April 2024 (4 month term)
Hours/week: 5 (including weekly meetings with More Than Food Program Advisor)
Compensation: $200 honorarium per term
Positions available: 4 volunteer positions available

Accountabilities:

  • Attend weekly team meetings with More Than Food Program Advisor
  • Create and organize group documents on OneDrive/Teams
  • Collaborate with other More Than Food Peers to plan, promote, set-up and facilitate 3 pop-up events on campus during 2024 winter term
    • Attend at least 2 out of 3 pop-up events
  • Monitor the More Than Food Program winter term budget
  • Conduct waste sorting education events 1-2 times per month during winter 2024 term
    • Attend at least 5 out of 7 waste sorting events
  • Conduct two waste audits in January and April 2024
  • Gather and organize feedback from the campus community to evaluate current Hospitality Services sustainability initiatives
